What the heck is manifesting anyway? Finding a basic Law of Attraction definition is difficult, because there are so many moving parts. I’m going to do a series of posts on manifesting basics and this is the first.
When I first heard of the Law of Attraction, or manifestation, I was skeptical. Anyone would be. It sounds too good to be true. I mean, seriously…?! All you need to do is imagine the life you want and boom you can create it. However, it’s not that simple or easy, but you can do it, if you’re willing to put in the work. A. Lot. Of. Work.
The more I read about it, the more sense it made to me. I first heard of LOA in The Secret and then went on to learn more. The more I read, the more I understood it and began to accept the principles. In fact, I’ve used the LOA in my own life and it changed everything. But before we go into all of that, let’s start with a basic Law of Attraction definition.
Law of Attraction Definition
The Law of Attraction (or manifestation) at it’s most basic level is the idea that like attracts like. So, the more positive you are, the more grateful you are, the more defined your goals and dreams are, the more likely you are to manifest or pull those things you seek into your life. If you are negative, focused on what you are missing, what you don’t have, it is more likely that you will stay that way. So, what you manifest is the direct result of your mindset. Your thoughts become your reality.
As a trained counselor, this made a lot of sense to me. Ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy? It is a psychological concept. If you believe you can’t lose weight, find a better paying job, attract the partner of your dreams, or anything else you want in life then you are probably right. You need to believe in yourself and your goals to achieve them.
In fact, there are a lot of similarities between positive psychology and LOA. Positive psychologists study happiness. In particular, the practice of gratitude exercises as a way to improve someone’s well-being. LOA also utilizes gratitude to raise the vibration, or energy. More on this concept later. Just remember that a higher vibration = happiness. And the chance to manifest what you seek.
Visualization is another key. Positive psychologists also emphasize visualization as a way to help you create change in your life. It’s almost like a rehearsal for what’s about to happen.
Energy or Vibration
Einstein once said “everything in life is vibration” and he was right. Everything and everyone is vibrating at an atomic level. So, what happens if your vibrations are weak?
Where is your energy going? Do you feel exhausted most of the time? Before I started manifesting, I was. Everyday living wore me out. I’d come home from work like a zombie and sit in front of the television or take a nap.
I wasn’t putting out the right vibration to attract what I wanted in life. If you want to succeed in manifesting or witchcraft for that matter, you need to protect and enhance your energy output. This energy or vibration is used to tune into the universe.

It Takes Time and Effort
You’ll see a lot of promises out there, that you can manifest things “overnight” or “right now” and that’s just crap, in my opinion. I’ve found that it’s a process. You can’t just think it and manifestation happens. You have to feel it, believe it. Like witchcraft, it takes time. One of the hardest steps is figuring out what you want in the first place. This isn’t the time for a bucket list of all the things you’ve ever wanted either. Not if you’re new to manifesting.
Pick one goal. And then take action. You can’t just sit there and hope it happens. For example, do you want to find a new partner? Then you’re going to have to mingle, or join some dating apps. Check out my new moon manifesting ritual if you want to ease into this process.
